Welcome to the City of Grey Forest, a small quaint city tucked away on Scenic Loop Road just north of Helotes.
Its location and charm are summed up in its motto – “A Scenic Playground.” Grey Forest has the benefit of being far enough away from big city life to be a getaway for its citizens, yet, it is only about 10 to 15 minutes away from the shopping, eating, and services that our modern world offers.
Along with the scenic character, you’ll find a friendly populace including professionals of all types from education to industry. The City also has a number of talented artisans, crafts people and artists that add a unique flavor to the community. From families with young children to those who are retired, our small city has a diversity of people with a shared desire to preserve the hill country of which we are a part. We have a strong interest in nature and ecology with several of our citizens becoming master naturalists and master gardeners.
With the focus on community spirit and preservation, you will find only one commercial business in the city – the historic Grey Moss Inn that has provided fine dining in a romantic setting for over 80 years. Beyond that, we live a peaceful existence where the residents walk our winding roads and enjoy the “scenic playground” life.
In 2012, the City of Grey Forest has celebrated its 50th Birthday. We are proud of our heritage as well as our current community approach.
In March, 2013 the City of Grey Forest
opened the Senator Frank L. Madla, Jr. Natural Area. This project has been in the works since 2009. The natural area is at the near corner of Scenic Loop and Menchaca and was made possible through a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife, conservation easement funds from the City of San Antonio, and donations from many of our friends. Thanks!
